YWCA Family Center Dinner
On Sunday evening, January 31 fifteen adults and five youth from Worthington UMC had the privilege of serving dinner to 79 family members at the
YWCA Family Center. The Columbus YWCA operates the comprehensive 24-hour emergency center for homeless families in Central Ohio. Dinners are provided daily with the assistance of local churches and civic groups.
The
Outreach Committee wishes to thank the volunteers for making our dinner a huge success; both for the families we served and our wonderful group of volunteers. Aside from serving these dear families in need, we formed new friendships with people outside WUMC and welcomed new members of our congregation in to our circle of serving God's people. A very special thank you to our youth volunteers who did an outstanding job welcoming the families, serving desserts and organizing our foam art crafts. Bless the parents for guiding your children to serve others. Thank you to the many generous members of our church family who baked brownies for the perfect finishing touch to our dinner of sloppy joes, tater tots, green beans and pears. We have served dinners prepared by the center staff in past years and this was our first attempt to prepare the meal. Our volunteer cooks were amazing and we are encouraged to continue to prepare the meals each time it's our opportunity to assist the center.
The
Outreach Committee will be in the final stages of preparation for our next meal at the
YWCA Family Center on Saturday, March 6 as you read this Messenger. We're sure with the blessings of our WUMC family, this dinner will be a nourishing meal and an enriching experience for the homeless families at the center.
